Former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi finished as the first runner-up for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, June 8.
Amaechi beat Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the second position behind the winner Bola Tinubu.
The former governor of Rivers State scored 316 votes while Osinbajo polled 235 votes.
Amaechi was booed at the primary by some delegates and accused of disrupting proceedings.
In a viral video, he was seen walking up to a crowd while holding his phone to his ears before being booed.
Earlier in his speech to the delegates on Tuesday, June 7, the former minister said he was the most qualified of all the aspirants.
Amaechi added that he has experience at all levels of governance and would therefore make a better president than any of the other aspirants.
In his own speech, Osinbajo said that the delegates have an incredible moral burden of deciding the fate of millions of Nigerians.
He said, “All that is left is to make the right decision tonight, and so we stand today at the threshold of history.
“To paraphrase Winston Churchill, so much depends on so few; 2322 delegates will decide the future of our children and their children.
“Two thousand, three hundred and twenty-two persons will decide the fortunes of Africa’s largest economy and the largest population of black people on earth; 2322 people, what an awesome responsibility, what an incredible moral burden.
“The future of our children compels us to vote right tonight; we are a religious nation we believe in the power of prayer, we all pray for a country that is peaceful and prosperous.”
According to him, God allows people by their votes to show him whether they mean the prayers they pray or not.
